"Era un Liberal ... Garibaldino" ....

Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, 1809 – 1865, was a French politician, and the first person to declare himself an Anarchist. He favored workers associations, as well as individual worker/peasant possession, over private ownership. In The Confessions of a Revolutionary Proudhon asserted that, Anarchy is Order Without Power, the phrase which much later inspired, the anarchist circled  "A" symbol, one common urban landscape graffiti.

Juseph-Ernest Renan, 1823 -1892, French philosopher, scholar of religion, leader of the school of  critical philosophy. Went to the seminary of Saint-Sulpice, where he soon underwent a crisis of faith In his view, the church’s teachings were incompatible with the findings of historical  criticism, but he kept a quasi-Christian faith.
The Future of Science, 1890. The main theme of this work is the importance of the history of religious origins, which he regarded as a human science having equal value to the sciences of nature He referred to Jesus as “an incomparable man.”
With his leanings toward liberalism and authoritarianism in politics and faith and skepticism  in religion, Renan embodied the contradictions of the middle class of his time. Politically, his influence after his death was far-reaching He succeeded in assuaging one of the great anxieties of his time, the antagonism between science and religion.

Giuseppe Garibaldi 1807 - 1882, Italian general, politician and nationalist who is considered one of Italy's "fathers of the fatherland". Garibaldi personally commanded and fought in many military campaigns that led eventually to the Italian unification.
Garibaldi entered Freemasonry and regarded it, as a network uniting progressive  men as brothers both within nations and as members of a global community. Garibaldi moved to Rome to support the Republic recently proclaimed in the Papal States, He was active in all continents throughout his incredible life, including visits to Peru.
If there is only one individual that you should read about his life, this is it without a doubt. Just incredible.

These people had tremendous influence on Angel Gasco. My father knew that his middle name Renan was no accident. He told me so.

Y eso? No, no ...no !!

Repulgue ...

I had never heard of this word or its use. The following info comes from  ...http://www.seashellsandsunflowers.blogspot.com/ The repulgue is the edge of the empanada . Much like an edge of a pie crust, the repulgue helps hold the empanada together. In Argentina, it also helps distinguish between different empanada flavors thus a means to ID the product.  In hand made operations the beef empanada will always have the same edge style, and many shops will provide a diagram showing the various repulgues and their corresponding fillings.
